Le Méridien Putrajaya Club King Room Review: Lounge, Breakfast and Airport Shuttle

Choosing the final hotel for my Malaysia trip came down to two priorities: convenient airport access and a genuinely relaxing stay. A direct connection to a major shopping mall, a spacious room, and access to a hotel club lounge would make a short stop in Putrajaya even more worthwhile.

That is why I chose Le Méridien Putrajaya. I stayed in a Club King Room and experienced the Club Lounge on Level 20, including afternoon tea, evening cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, and breakfast.

In this detailed Le Méridien Putrajaya review, I will cover the room, panoramic view, Club Lounge benefits, breakfast at Latest Recipe, the connection to IOI City Mall, and the airport shuttle available during my stay. I will also share the key advantages and drawbacks to help you decide whether the Club King Room is worth the upgrade.

Le Méridien Putrajaya Location and First Impressions

Le Méridien Putrajaya is located in IOI Resort City, approximately 30 minutes by car from Kuala Lumpur International Airport. The drive to central Kuala Lumpur usually takes around 30 to 40 minutes, depending on traffic.

The location makes the hotel particularly convenient for the first or final night of a Malaysia itinerary. It also works well for travelers visiting Putrajaya, attending an event in the area, or planning a shopping-focused hotel stay rather than spending every day in downtown Kuala Lumpur.

From the outside, the hotel has the appearance of a contemporary glass tower with prominent vertical design elements. The architecture is clean and urban rather than overly decorative, while the surrounding roads and pedestrian areas feel spacious and well maintained.

Check-in begins at 3:00 p.m., and check-out is at 12:00 noon. The noon check-out time gave me enough flexibility to enjoy breakfast and pack without rushing before heading to the airport.

A Spacious Lobby with Warm, Contemporary Design

The first feature that caught my attention was the hotel lobby’s high ceiling and polished marble surfaces. Curved sofas in orange and brown tones soften the grand interior, while distinctive floor lamps add warmth to the otherwise modern space.

A separate glass-enclosed area on one side of the lobby includes business facilities and a dedicated check-in space for eligible Club Room guests. This can make the arrival experience more comfortable, especially when the main reception desk is busy.

The overall lobby design strikes a good balance between scale and comfort. It feels suitable for both leisure guests and business travelers without becoming too formal or impersonal.

Direct Indoor Access to IOI City Mall

One of the hotel’s greatest advantages is its direct indoor connection to IOI City Mall. There is no need to walk outside, which is especially useful during heavy rain or in Malaysia’s hot and humid daytime weather.

The mall offers a wide range of restaurants, cafés, shops, entertainment facilities, a supermarket, and currency-exchange services. This made it easy to buy travel essentials, find a casual meal, or spend a few hours shopping without arranging transportation.

The connection is particularly valuable for families and travelers staying for only one or two nights. Instead of spending time traveling to another commercial district, almost everything needed for a comfortable stay is available within the same complex.

IOI CONNECT Airport Shuttle During My Stay

During my stay, guests who booked through an eligible Marriott Bonvoy channel were informed about the IOI CONNECT complimentary shuttle service. The route connected the hotel with Putrajaya Sentral, KLIA Terminal 2, and KLIA Terminal 1.

The service was convenient because it reduced the need to book a separate airport transfer. Multiple departures were available between the early morning and late evening, and return services from the airport were also listed.

Seats may be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis, so it is advisable to speak to the reception team as early as possible. I would not recommend relying on an old online timetable when planning a flight connection.

Shuttle routes, eligibility requirements, departure times, and pick-up points may change. Confirm the latest schedule directly with the hotel before arrival and again at check-in. Allow sufficient travel time for traffic, airport check-in, and possible stops along the route.

Le Méridien Putrajaya Club King Room

I stayed in a Club King Room, which included access to the Le Méridien Club Lounge. The room combined grey and orange carpeting with dark wood furniture, creating a calm and understated interior.

The design may not feel as cutting-edge as that of a newly opened lifestyle hotel, but the generous amount of space and practical furniture layout made the room comfortable. It did not feel crowded, even with luggage open.

Opposite the king-size bed were a work desk and a sofa, making it possible to separate working and relaxing areas. This setup would be useful for business travelers who need a proper desk rather than working from the bed.

The minibar area included bottled water, a French press, and coffee- and tea-making supplies. The refrigerator was stocked with milk, soft drinks, and snacks. The items inside the minibar refrigerator were chargeable during my stay, so it is worth checking the minibar price list before using them.

Bed and Mattress Comfort

The bed felt soft and enveloping, with plush bedding that suited a restful hotel stay. Travelers who enjoy a very soft mattress may find it particularly comfortable.

However, the mattress was noticeably softer than I expected. Guests who prefer a firm sleeping surface or stronger lower-back support may feel that the mattress sinks too deeply.

Mattress comfort is highly subjective, but it is one factor I would consider when deciding whether this room suits individual sleeping preferences.

Marble Bathroom with a Separate Bathtub and Shower

The bathroom was finished primarily in light-colored marble, giving it a brighter appearance than the bedroom. A glass partition visually connected the bathroom and sleeping area, but a blind could be lowered for privacy.

The bathroom included a generously sized soaking bathtub, a separate shower enclosure, and an enclosed toilet area. This divided layout was practical when two people needed to get ready at the same time.

Basic bathroom amenities provided during my stay included toothbrushes, toothpaste, mouthwash, and a shaving kit. The room and bathroom appeared clean and well maintained, while the separation between wet and dry areas helped keep the space organized.

Panoramic Golf Course and Putrajaya Views

The floor-to-ceiling window was one of my favorite features of the Club King Room. Roads, green fairways, and wooded areas extended into the distance, creating a much more open view than I usually expect from an urban hotel.

In clear weather, several recognizable Putrajaya landmarks could be seen in the distance. The direction of Putra Mosque and Perdana Putra was visible beyond the surrounding landscape, adding a distinctive sense of place to the view.

The same room category may face different directions, and a landmark or golf course view is not guaranteed. If the view is important, add a high-floor or golf-course-view request to the reservation and ask again during check-in. Requests remain subject to availability.

Le Méridien Club Lounge on Level 20

The main reason I booked the Club King Room was access to the Le Méridien Club Lounge on Level 20.

During my stay, the lounge was open daily from 6:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. It provided breakfast, afternoon tea, evening cocktails, and hors d’oeuvres at designated times. Coffee, tea, juice, soft drinks, and light snacks were available throughout the lounge’s operating hours.

The elevated location offered wide views across Putrajaya, while the seating was arranged with enough space for dining, relaxing, or working. Even outside the main food-service periods, the lounge was pleasant to use as an alternative to staying in the room.

Club Lounge access was based on the number of guests registered on the reservation. Unregistered visitors or additional guests could be subject to a separate fee.

Eligible Club guests also received up to two hours of complimentary private meeting-room use, subject to advance reservation and availability. This benefit could be particularly useful for business travelers who need a quiet space for a meeting or video call.

Club Lounge Schedule During My Stay

  • Club Lounge breakfast: 6:30 a.m.–10:30 a.m.
  • Afternoon tea: 2:30 p.m.–5:00 p.m.
  • Evening cocktails and hors d’oeuvres: 6:00 p.m.–8:00 p.m.
  • Coffee, tea, juice, soft drinks, and light snacks: 6:30 a.m.–10:00 p.m.
  • Private meeting room: Two complimentary hours with advance reservation

Lounge hours, food selections, alcohol service, and guest-access rules can change, so the latest benefits should be confirmed when booking or checking in.

Club Lounge Afternoon Tea

Afternoon tea was available between 2:30 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. Rather than an elaborate tiered afternoon-tea presentation, the service was closer to a relaxed lounge snack period with drinks and light food.

The beverage station included an illy coffee machine and a selection of tea bags. Canned soft drinks and juice were available from the refrigerated display.

The food selection during my visit included club sandwiches, cream puffs, small pastries, cookies, and whole fruit. The selection was sufficient for a light snack between lunch and dinner, although it was not intended to replace a full meal.

The timing worked well after check-in. It was also convenient to return to the hotel for coffee and refreshments after spending time at IOI City Mall.

Food selections can vary by date, so travelers should regard these dishes as examples of what was available during my stay rather than a fixed daily menu.

Evening Cocktails and Hors d’Oeuvres

Evening cocktails and hors d’oeuvres were served from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Although the service was described as hors d’oeuvres, the selection during my stay included hot dishes, noodles, sushi, salads, cheese, fruit, and desserts.

For a traveler with a moderate appetite, the spread was substantial enough to serve as a light dinner.

Hot Dishes

The most memorable hot dish was the beef rendang. The meat was relatively tender, and the sauce had an aromatic combination of spices and coconut flavors.

Chettinad fish curry provided a more pronounced Indian spice profile while retaining a soft texture. Stir-fried chicken with vegetables and mee goreng were approachable options for guests who preferred familiar, filling dishes.

Sushi and Cold Dishes

The Japanese selection included assorted maki rolls and inari sushi, accompanied by wasabi and pickled ginger.

The salad bar offered fresh vegetables, olives, and four dressings. Kimchi was also available, which paired well with some of the richer and more strongly spiced dishes.

Cheese, Fruit and Desserts

The dessert and cold selection was more extensive than I expected. There were four kinds of cheese, bread, tropical fruit such as dragon fruit and papaya, chocolate desserts, and ice cream.

Wine, beer, and cocktails were also available from the lounge bar during the evening service.

One drawback was the 6:00 p.m. start time. Travelers accustomed to lounges that begin evening service at 5:00 or 5:30 p.m. may find it slightly late. Using the afternoon tea benefit or having a later lunch can make the waiting period more comfortable.

Breakfast in the Club Lounge

Club Lounge breakfast was available from 6:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. The selection was smaller than the buffet at Latest Recipe, but the lounge offered a quieter environment and a more relaxed pace.

The local breakfast selection included lamb rendang and nasi lemak. Coconut rice could be paired with sambal, peanuts, and anchovies to create a traditional Malaysian breakfast plate.

A live noodle counter prepared made-to-order noodle dishes with the guest’s choice of ingredients. Dim sum and steamed buns were presented in bamboo steamers, while the bakery selection included croissants, Danish pastries, and scones.

Salad, kimchi, tropical fruit, and blueberries were also available. The fresh fruit made a refreshing finish after the richer Malaysian dishes.

The Club Lounge is the better breakfast choice for travelers who prioritize peaceful surroundings. It is also convenient for a quick meal before an early appointment or airport transfer.

Breakfast at Latest Recipe

Travelers who value variety should consider breakfast at Latest Recipe, the hotel’s main restaurant on the ground floor.

During my stay, breakfast was served from 6:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. The buffet covered Malaysian, Indian, Chinese, Japanese, and Western dishes, with several live cooking stations.

Teh Tarik and Fresh Juice

One highlight was teh tarik, Malaysia’s frothy pulled milk tea. The juice section included chilled carrot, watermelon, and cucumber juices.

Live Noodle Station

The noodle station offered a choice between chicken noodle soup and spicy, tangy tom yum noodles. Guests could customize their bowls with condiments such as lime, garlic oil, and sambal belacan.

Indian and Malaysian Breakfast

The Indian section included roti canai and dhal curry. A separate vegetarian selection was also available.

The Malaysian section featured nasi lemak with coconut rice and sambal, while chicken porridge was served with toppings such as fried dough and bonito flakes.

Dim Sum and Egg Station

Several bamboo steamers held dim sum and steamed buns, accompanied by a selection of dipping sauces.

At the live egg station, guests could order omelets or scrambled eggs. Familiar breakfast dishes such as chicken wings and baked beans were also available.

Bakery, Honeycomb and Dairy Selection

Waffles and pancakes were prepared at the bakery station. A particularly memorable feature was the honeycomb display, allowing guests to add honey directly from the comb.

A refrigerated display contained bottled yogurt, mango pudding, soy milk, and dairy milk. Keeping these products chilled and neatly organized contributed to the buffet’s overall presentation.

If a peaceful meal is the priority, choose the Club Lounge. If variety, live stations, and Malaysian breakfast specialties matter more, Latest Recipe is the stronger option. Club Room guests with enough time may want to try both venues on different mornings.

Outdoor Swimming Pool and 24-Hour Fitness Center

The outdoor pool area included a main swimming pool surrounded by palm trees and a separate circular children’s pool. The division between the two pools makes the facility practical for families with younger children.

The fitness center was open 24 hours during my stay and featured Life Fitness equipment. Large windows overlooked greenery, which made the indoor exercise area feel less enclosed.

The facility is useful for guests who want to exercise before an early departure or after a day of sightseeing and shopping. Facility hours can change, so confirm current access details with the hotel.

Nearby Attractions and Convenient Facilities

The direct connection to IOI City Mall is the most useful nearby amenity. Restaurants, cafés, shops, a supermarket, and currency-exchange services are available without requiring a taxi or ride-hailing service.

Putra Mosque is approximately a 15-minute drive from the hotel, depending on traffic. Putra Square, Perdana Putra, and the lakeside areas can be combined into a convenient half-day Putrajaya itinerary.

However, the hotel is not an ideal base for travelers who expect to explore most attractions on foot. Visitors planning to spend every day around KLCC, Bukit Bintang, and central Kuala Lumpur should account for the additional driving time.

Le Méridien Putrajaya is better suited to airport stopovers, Putrajaya sightseeing, business trips, shopping breaks, and hotel-focused stays.

Le Méridien Putrajaya: Pros and Cons

What I Liked

  1. Substantial Club Lounge Food

The Club Lounge offered food and drinks throughout the day. Afternoon tea was useful for a light snack, while the evening selection of rendang, curry, sushi, cheese, fruit, and desserts was sufficient for a light dinner.

  1. Direct Connection to IOI City Mall

Indoor mall access made it easy to avoid rain and heat while finding food, shopping for essentials, or spending a few hours indoors.

  1. Spacious Room and Wide Views

The Club King Room offered a practical amount of space, while the golf course and Putrajaya views created a strong sense of openness.

  1. Two Breakfast Experiences

Club Room guests could choose between the calm atmosphere of the Club Lounge and the extensive international buffet at Latest Recipe.

  1. Convenient Location for the Airport

The hotel’s Putrajaya location made it a practical option before a flight, particularly when combined with the shuttle service available during my stay.

What Could Be Better

  1. Very Soft Mattress

Travelers who prefer a firm bed may find the mattress too soft.

  1. Relatively Late Evening Service

The evening food service began at 6:00 p.m., which may feel late for guests who prefer an early dinner.

  1. Distance from Central Kuala Lumpur

The hotel is not in downtown Kuala Lumpur. Travelers planning extensive sightseeing around KLCC should factor in traffic and transportation costs.

  1. Minibar Items Are Chargeable

The stocked refrigerator may appear inviting, but the drinks and snacks were not complimentary during my stay.

Is the Le Méridien Putrajaya Club King Room Worth It?

The Le Méridien Putrajaya Club King Room is a compelling choice for travelers who intend to spend meaningful time at the hotel rather than using the room only for sleeping.

The combination of afternoon tea, evening cocktails, a substantial hors d’oeuvres spread, breakfast, all-day non-alcoholic drinks, and a comfortable lounge adds practical value to the Club Room rate. The upgrade becomes easier to justify when guests can attend most of the scheduled lounge services.

I would especially recommend the Club King Room to couples planning a relaxed hotel stay, families who appreciate direct mall access, business travelers who need workspace, and passengers looking for a comfortable hotel near Kuala Lumpur International Airport.

However, travelers who plan to leave early and return late may not use enough of the Club Lounge benefits to justify the price difference. In that situation, compare the standard room and Club Room rates before booking.

Room rates, lounge benefits, shuttle services, and operating hours may change. Verify the latest details with the hotel before booking. Club Rooms may also sell out earlier during weekends, public holidays, and peak travel periods, so advance reservations are advisable.
